Reading Reflection

Today was a busy, but fun day during reading and the kids were abuzz with iPad excitement. Unfortunately, we didn't do too much with the iPads today - BUMMER, I know!

We started reading this morning by watching the videos that each group created about the expectations of our hour-long workshop.  The students enjoyed each minute of watching themselves on the SMART Board and knowing that they're now on YouTube. After that, we did a quick write and group reflection, about how we felt reading workshop has been going so far this year and telling why we thought so. Each student responded for 3 minutes and then passed their paper to the person on their right. The papers continued to be passed around the group, every three minutes, until each student had his/her paper back. It was quite the reflection!

When we did get to work with the iPads, we had some discussion and did some important work too. First, we added some frequently visited website links to our homescreens and put these into a folder. We also discussed how these iPads are the students and that they're responsible for organizing them, but they need to know where the apps are and it needs to be quick. I'll provided assistance at first, but, just like their binder, it will be up to them to maintain.  While it's fun, we need to remember that the iPad is a learning tool.  We also met in small groups to check that our Apple IDs were working. Then the students decided if they wanted the screen protector on or off, and also ensured their name was written in paint marker.

When students weren't doing the above activities, they were reading in their spots. Like I said originally, busy day!
